The influx of more than a million refugees and migrants to the Greek islands in the past year has stirred up difficult memories for a dwindling group who followed the same route during World War Two, but in reverse.

As German and Italian troops occupied Greece, tens of thousands of people fled by sea to refugee camps in the Middle East.

At the end of the war, they began heading home. Most made it back safely, but for some the journey ended in tragedy.

"An event like this is hard to forget," says Eleni Karavelatzi. "It leaves you seared with scars and makes you bitter forever."

Disaster for refugees returning on British shipImage copyrightIMPERIAL WAR MUSEUMImage captionIn 1945 the SS Empire Patrol caught fire carrying 500 Greeks home from Port Said

Eleni Karavelatzi was 12 months old when in 1942 her family fled the Nazi occupation of Kastelorizo, a Greek island 2km (1.5 miles) from the Turkish coast.

They sailed first to Cyprus and then to a refugee camp in Gaza known as El Nuseirat. They stayed there until the end of the war.

In September 1945, a British vessel, the SS Empire Patrol, left the Egyptian city of Port Said carrying Eleni's family and 500 other Greek refugees.

Within hours, fire broke out onboard. Thirty-three passengers died, including 14 children.

Media captionRemembering the Empire Patrol disaster

From her garden on Kastelorizo, Eleni can now see the EU border agency ship searching for new migrants and reminisces about what happened in 1945.

"My parents told me that I was tied with a rope and lowered on to a raft. But as they were letting me down, my father saw that it was full and ordered me back. As soon as I was brought up, a woman jumped on the dinghy. It capsized and all the children drowned."

Among the victims were Eleni's three cousins, whose names are carved on a monument a short distance from where she lives.

Image captionEvery September residents of Kastelorizo gather to commemorate those who died in the shipwreck

To the east of the monument lives Kastelorizo's only other survivor, Maria Chroni, who lives with her granddaughter.

Maria Chroni, who was born in 1937, clung for life on a piece of wreckage.

"I found myself at sea holding on to a wooden plank."

"How it happened, I can't remember. I only know I that I stayed in this position for 10 hours. Then my father rescued me and lifted me into the charred boat."

From Aleppo to Egypt and beyond

Other Greek refugees had fled the Nazi occupation to Syria. They were mainly from the island of Chios, a few kilometres off the Turkey coast.

"The Germans were here and we were hungry. I was three back then," remembers Marianthi Andreadi. "So we left for Turkey illegally and from there we took the train to Al Nayrab camp in Aleppo (Syria)."

Marianthi remembers some of the faces that stood out on her journey. "I was surrounded by older women. And there was this moment that stays with me when we were on the Turkish border and the guard yells 'Gel Burda! Gel Burda!' (come here)."

"We ran away quickly. I fell down. And eventually he let us go. But I never forgot this."

Image captionMarianthi Andreadi spent a few weeks in the British-run Al Nayrab refugee camp in Aleppo, Syria

Greek archives reveal Al Nayrab camp was less a permanent settlement than a meeting point, says Iakovos Michailidis, professor of history at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. "People were brought here for short periods of time before being sent to various parts of the Middle East, or even Africa."

Ioannis Stekas travelled first to the Middle East and then into Africa.

He explains how his father sold their properties to send him and his brother abroad with their mother, Chrisanthi.

"He was planning to follow us with my 10-year-old sister. But shortly afterwards the Germans banned migration towards Turkey."

In her diary, written down by Ioannis, his mother writes: "We went to Cesme (in Turkey) and stayed there for a month, then headed to Izmir, before travelling for three days by train to Aleppo." Ioannis's older brother Kostas was at that point drafted into the army by the Allies.

Ioannis, aged six, carried on with his mother on their long journey via Egypt to Dar es Salaam on the coast of Tanzania before continuing across land to Elisabethville, now Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

"After 40 days we left Aleppo by train and in two days we arrived in Egypt, at the Suez Canal," Ioannis's diary says. "We stayed there for a while in tents."

"After Egypt we took a cargo ship and crossed the Red Sea to Aden, a British colony. We stayed two days inside the ship as they were bringing food supplies for the rest of the journey.

"When we left Aden, there were hot air balloons to prevent enemies from bombing civilians. No-one knew where they were taking us. After a 10-day journey we arrived in Dar Es Salaam."

Stamatis's storyImage captionStamatis Michaliades (R) with his older brother George

Stamatis Michaliades, was just six when he fled famine during the German occupation of Chios in 1942.

He left with his father and brother while others in the family stayed on the island. The boys and their father crossed to Turkey and from there to the Moses Wells refugee camp in the Egyptian desert, where they waited for the war to end.

Image captionMany Greeks were evacuated to the Moses Wells campPast and present

While Greece's returned refugees feel a bond with the new wave of displaced people, age makes it difficult for them to meet.

But they hear new stories from Greek TV and Marianthi Andreadi believes that despite her country's financial problems "we're doing what we can".

From their balconies, the former evacuees watched Syrian refugees coming off packed fishing boats. "It's like a mirror to the past," says Maria Chroni. "The hardest thing is having to witness the arrival of children."

Eleni points out that the Greek evacuees made it back home and life returned to normal. She is not sure if the same will happen to the Greece's new refugees any time soon

British multiculturalists are feeding Islamic fundamentalism. Muslims do not need to become the majority in the UK; they just need gradually to Islamize the most important cities. The change is already taking place.

British personalities keep opening the door to introducing Islamic sharia law. One of the leading British judges, Sir James Munby, said that Christianity no longer influences the courts and these must be multicultural, which means more Islamic. Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, and Chief Justice Lord Phillips, also suggested that the English law should "incorporate" elements of sharia law.

British universities are also advancing Islamic law. The academic guidelines, "External speakers in higher education institutions", provide that "orthodox religious groups" may separate men and women during events. At the Queen Mary University of London, women have had to use a separate entrance and were forced to sit in a room without being able to ask questions or raise their hands, just as in Riyadh or Tehran.

"London is more Islamic than many Muslim countries put together", according to*****Maulana Syed Raza Rizvi, one of the Islamic preachers who now lead "Londonistan", as the journalist Melanie Phillips has called the English capital. No, Rizvi is not a right-wing extremist. Wole Soyinka, a Nobel Laureate for Literature, was less generous; he*****called the UK*****"a cesspit for Islamists".

"Terrorists can not stand London multiculturalism", London's mayor*****Sadiq Khan said*****after the recent deadly terror attack at Westminster. The opposite is true: British multiculturalists are feeding Islamic fundamentalism. Above all, Londonistan, with its new*****423 mosques, is built on the sad ruins of English Christianity.

The*****Hyatt United Church*****was bought by the Egyptian community to be converted to a mosque.*****St Peter's Church*****has been converted into the Madina Mosque. The*****Brick Lane Mosque*****was built on a former Methodist church. Not only buildings are converted, but also people. The number of*****converts to Islam*****has doubled; often they embrace radical Islam, as with*****Khalid Masood, the terrorist who struck Westminster.

The*****Daily Mail*****published photographs of a church and a mosque a few meters from each other in the heart of London. At the Church of San Giorgio, designed to accommodate 1,230 worshipers, only 12 people gathered to celebrate Mass. At the Church of Santa Maria, there were 20.

The nearby Brune Street Estate mosque has a different problem: overcrowding. Its small room and can contain only 100. On Friday, the faithful must pour into the street to pray. Given the current trends, Christianity in England is becoming a relic, while Islam will be the religion of the future.

In*****Birmingham, the second-largest British city, where many jihadists live and orchestrate their attacks, an Islamic minaret dominates the sky. There are petitions to allow British mosques to call the Islamic faithful to prayer on loudspeakers*****three times a day.

By 2020, estimates are that the number of*****Muslims attending prayers*****will reach at least 683,000, while the number of Christians attending weekly Mass will drop to 679,000. "The new cultural landscape of English cities has arrived; the homogenised, Christian landscape of state religion is in retreat", said*****Ceri Peach*****of Oxford University. While nearly half of British Muslims are under the age of 25, a quarter of Christians are over 65. "In another 20 years there are going to be more active Muslims than there are churchgoers," said*****Keith Porteous Wood, director of the National Secular Society.

Since 2001,*****500 London churches*****of all denominations have been turned into private homes. During the same period, British mosques have been proliferating. Between 2012 and 2014, the proportion of Britons who identify themselves as*****Anglicans*****fell from 21% to 17%, a decrease of 1.7 million people, while, according to a survey conducted by the respected*****NatCen Social Research Institute, the number of Muslims has grown by almost a million. Churchgoers are declining at a rate that within a generation, their number will be three times lower than that of Muslims who go regularly to mosque on Friday.

Demographically, Britain has been acquiring an increasingly an Islamic face, in places such as Birmingham, Bradford, Derby, Dewsbury, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Luton, Manchester, Sheffield, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets. In 2015, an analysis of the most common name in England showed it was*****Mohammed, including spelling variations such as Muhammad and Mohammad.

Most important cities have huge Muslim populations: Manchester (15.8%), Birmingham (21.8%) and Bradford (24.7%). In*****Birmingham, the police just dismantled a terrorist cell; there is also a greater probability that a child will be born into a Muslim family than into a Christian one. In Bradford and Leicester, half the children are Muslim. Muslims do not need to become the majority in the UK; they just need gradually to Islamize the most important cities. The change is already taking place. "Londonistan" is not a Muslim majority nightmare; it is a cultural, demographic and religious hybrid in which Christianity declines and Islam advances.

Thousands of Muslims participate in a public outdoor prayer service in Birmingham, England, on July 6, 2016. (Image source: Ruptly video screenshot)

According to Innes Bowen,*****writing in*****The Spectator, only two of the 1,700 mosques in Britain today follow the*****modernist interpretation of Islam, compared with 56% in the United States. The Wahhabis control six percent of mosques in the UK, while the fundamentalist Deobandi control up to 45%. According to a survey from the Knowledge Center, a third of UK Muslims do not feel "part of British culture."

London is also full of*****sharia courts. There are officially 100. The advent of this parallel judicial system has been made possible thanks to the British Arbitration Act and the system of Alternative Dispute Resolution. These new courts are based on the rejection of the inviolability of human rights: the values of freedom and equality that are the basis of English Common Law.

British personalities keep opening the door to introduce sharia. One of Britain's leading judges, Sir*****James Munby, said that Christianity no longer influences the courts and these must be multicultural -- which means more Islamic.*****Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, and Chief Justice*****Lord Phillips*****also suggested that British law should "incorporate" elements of sharia law. The British cultural establishment is rapidly capitulating to Islamic fundamentalists in accepting their demands.

British universities are also advancing Islamic law. The official guidelines of the university, "External speakers in higher education institutions", published by Universities UK, provide that "orthodox religious groups" may separate men and women during events. At*****Queen Mary University of London, women had to use a separate entrance and were forced to sit in a room without being able to ask questions or raise their hands -- as in Riyadh or Tehran. The*****Islamic Society at the London School of Economicsheld a gala, in which women and men were separated by a seven-meter panel.

After the attack on the French satirical magazine*****Charlie Hebdo, the head of MI6, Sir John Sawers, recommended self-censorship and "some restraint" in discussing Islam. The British ambassador in Saudi Arabia, Simon Collis, converted to Islam and completed the pilgrimage to Mecca, the*****hajj. He now calls himself Haji Collis.

What will be next?

On Sunday I witnessed a very long procession of Sikhs in Glasgow. Organisers claimed that there were 3,000 people in the procession although I suspect there might be an element of exaggeration in that, from what I saw. Also the procession involved Sikhs from across Scotland, not just Glasgow. Nevertheless it shows the strength of this religion in Scotland. It would be interesting to see figures of Sikhs compared to Christians similar to those for Moslems compared to Christians.

What an absolute pile of rubbish this article is. In London, the amount of new Pentecostal/Evangelical, Orthodox and Polish Catholic churches that have opened in the past 10 years is staggering.

Gatestone Institute: whilst I applaud your general message and mission, poorly researched articles like this do nothing to help our cause of eradicating Islamist expansion in Europe.

Successive governments have been ignorantly allowing huge numbers of people from Muslim countries to enter Britain. Many of us were complaining about this in the 1980s but were ignored or put off with promises of a Referendum of the EU membership. A points system for entering Britain has been consistently refused. Humanists, not Christians have been in charge of governments and our Christian principles and ideals have been quietly undermined since the 1950s until we are now at the stage when totally anti-Christian laws are being passed. The Archbishop of Canterbury, being a political appointee, does not stand for "real" Christians but tries to bridge the gap between the teaching of the Church and very powerful Humanist/Marxist influences which are becoming ever more vociferous. Christians have little opportunity to speak out and are ridiculed and attacked with hostility, in some cases arrested.

However, it should be made clear that those who seem to be converting to Islam are not the native British people - (by native I refer to those of us whose ancestry is Anglosaxon, Welsh, Scottish, Irish) - but more usually men (immigrants or children of immigrants) who have been coerced into "converting" while serving a prison sentence. This is a matter which is only just now coming to the notice of the government!
Sadly the British people have become more and more materialistic since the privations of World War 2, and the so-called prosperity that came with the Welfare State, (based on borrowing, so that we are now hugely in debt).

Historically Islam only expands at the expense of the weak, those who are off-guard and unready. They specialise in terror but when nations fight back they can win, for example, when IS first swept into Iraq they took peaceful villages and unarmed people by surprise, but now the tables are being turned.

In a different way this has happened in Britain and Europe, and I feel that it will end in civil war.

Or there may be a great Christian Revival.

The increasing diversity of immigration in the UK is very encouraging. In most UK cities between the periods of 2001 and 2011, the fastest growing ethnic groups were; Chinese, 'White other' (Eastern Europeans) and African (mostly Christians from Zimbabwe, Ghana, Nigeria etc).

Immigration from Pakistan and Bangladesh (our two largest importers of Islam) has stagnated and even declined a little in recent years, whilst immigration from India (mostly Hindu and Sikh) continues to grow.

Another ethnic group that is growing fast in the UK are Latin Americans, who are now estimated to be almost a quarter of a million strong.

It is also worth bearing in mind the rapid growth of London and Manchester's Orthodox Jewish populations.

In Ireland, a recent religious survey showed Hinduism and Orthodox Christianity as the fastest growing religions in the country, with Islam taking third place.

IF the Muslims are turning Europe into the Islamic countries they left then why did they leave? The obvious answer to anyone with a brain is to conquer not assimilate. The globalists are doing exactly what they planned and first they disarmed their people before importing Islam. I would like to know when is Ted Cruz's bill to name the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group going to pass? We need to get behind Trump and nip Islam in the bud.

And the queen, defender of the faith, but what faith? She and her family would be out of work but won't be short of a few quid, yet they play the ostrich as the country is reduced to third world status complete with men running around in pyjamas and women dressed in bin bags. What a sickening future the indigenous people of this country face, and not a backbone amongst them other than the few who face jail when they speak up.

Reply->

Richard*****•*****Apr 4, 2017 at 01:49

This is what happens when you have leaders that betray their country and ignore the indigenous population. These Muslims must be laughing their socks off at the stupidity of these so called leaders, both in government and the majority of the UK celebrities that are quite happy to see the ever increasing immigration and the destruction of their country. The majority of these "immigrants welcome" are insulated from the effects that this invasion is having on the general population. It is hard to believe that those in power continue to appease these people whose culture is totally alien with western civilization. To think that Britain fought two world wars at the costs of thousands of lives to keep the enemy out and now these spineless imbeciles might as well be waving white flags, as they are happy to welcome in this collective bunch of people whose only purpose is to dominate every western society and turn them into satellite countries of the Middle East.

A well known french writer and polemist, Eric Zemmour (of jewish background) wrote a best seller book 2 years ago "Le suicide français" (the french suicide).
In my humble opinion, France not yet has reached to such a degree of surrender to islamism as your article describes it in England.
In particular I think that it is absolutely impossible that some elements of the sharia might be included in the french laws within a middle term future.
Hearing some anglican high ranked clerics to promote such inclusions in the GB's laws is utterly apalling.
England's suicide is well ongoing.

When France had the French Revolution during the 17th century, they were using guillotines for cutting people heads off. Did that have
anything to do with Islam during that reign?

England was once the jewel in the crown of European Christendom. England's rich Christian heritage is increasingly denied and rejected, and what little remains has been distorted and corrupted. It is inevitable, and indeed justice, that when we reject Christ, we embrace Antichrist. AS Jesus said; "I came in my Father's name, and you rejected me. But when one comes in his own name, that one you will accept."

Hijrah is a term that everyone needs to learn. Excerpt from article by Monica Crowley:

"Hijra is a core part of jihad going back to the Prophet Muhammad that involves Islamic conquest through migration. The objective is to overwhelm non-Muslim territories with Muslim populations until they achieve domination through sheer numbers."

Leftists who have long wanted to see Western civilization and culture destroyed and Muslim migration provides them that tool.

The greater problem is not Islam, although that is a great problem because it has turned the One and Only God into a counterfeit malevolent force time and again.

The greater problem is that those in the West have turned their back on God. They do not pray (beyond a muttering or two), they do not regularly attend church, they do not think they sin, they do not care if they do, they do not think about the reality of God and passing into the next life and what it may hold for them? How can you not? How can you not see the evidence for God, heaven and hell? How can you be so cavalier about your own mortality and then wake up one day on the other side of the grave shocked and mortified. God asks so little of you and even that is a nuisance apparently.

Sir James Munby is a professed secularist. His basic premise is that the law is not the repository of Christian morality. Those cited who have spoken about Sharia, Rowan Williams and Lord Phillips, were adverting to the right to choose mediation and other ADR fori without departing from fundemntal principles including resort to the civil courts. Williams is clearly an oddball on this, however, and some of his comments have clearly been over the top.

The decline in church attendance by Christians is not representative of whether they still believe in their God. It could be that in our enlightened age, Christians no longer believe in the Church itself or need to publicly demonstrate their piety. Unlike Islam, Christianity does not require that you have a visible dark mark on your forehead from praying or wear a particular form of dress to display your beliefs.

Reply->

Paul*****•*****Apr 2, 2017 at 20:37

It is surprising that his Lordship, Judge MUNBY should mention that Christianity no longer 'influences the courts and these must be multicultural.' I thought that the cornerstones of Democracy were the separation of powers of Politics and Justice without any influence from religion? What he is suggesting is that we should place these powers back into the hands of the Imans through Sharia or doesn't he realize that this will be the eventual result of this process.

Fear mongering at it's finest. Why not consider another religion which is at its peak? The LDS church is the fastest growing church in America, but we do not worry about america becoming a nation of polygamists as we accept that these sects are outside of the mainstream peaceful religion. However, as soon as Islam is introduced we run in fear and push our christian background. Christianity was once (yes, a very long time ago) the minority religion in England and you only have to look at the crusades and the civil war to see the horror it caused. our world is shifting yes, but this type of article only furthers the feelings of antagonism toward the other. And much like another comment I've seen here I would love to know if this article includes the increasing number of churches meeting in non-church buildings. This is where the biggest Christian revival is taking place.

Reply->

Paul**********Eleanor*****•*****Apr 3, 2017 at 22:13

Eleanor, I implore you to research the historical roots that lead to the Crusades. You will find that it was not because blood thirsty Christians decided to plunder the holy land. Instead, they answered a plea by the then Pope to recapture and defend following expansion of the Islamic empire who put all who would not renounce their faith to the sword or enslaved them. Sometimes, there is a need to be ruthless when you are fighting a ruthless enemy. Turn the other cheek and they will take the opportunity to cut your throat.

While it is nice you are publishing this article, no one is reading it, at least not enough people.

It is important to understand that the British establishment committed England to cultural suicide when they awarded the Beatles OBE medals. That was the beginning of cultural Marxism in the Judaeo-Christian west in what was planned as a long Trojan Horse campaign through decades and generations to bring about a global secular world system that we are now engaged in fighting as it comes in to more clear view called "Globalism".

Muslims are simply being used as a literal tool of nihilism, a sharp-edged sword that will wipe out the Judaeo-Christian culture before being annihilated itself by the police state.

During all of this, successive generations of children will grow up brainwashed by UN multi-cultural (destruction of all cultures) policies in schools and groomed for the gleaming Communist future where their only life purpose and justification will be to be a good producer and consumer in a totally nihilist world void of all past cultural references and religions where the very elite few (Supreme Soviet) live off the sweat of the worker bees whom they bring in to existence or decommission having come in to state control of procreation and death. Hitler eat you heart out.

This is a stunning revelation, along with the hundred other stunning revelations about Europe and the UK. The numbers mentioned are amazing. So, we now fly to "Londonistan" when we want to see the wreck that Islam is creating in our Allies?
I want to say one thing. Because people have decided not to attend church, doesn't necessarily mean they don't believe in G-d or Yeshua. Religion has been getting it wrong for thousands of years. Stepping away from formal religious practices, with all the Sharia Courts forming, and the mosques numbers increasing, it probably seems that church isn't "gettin' 'er done"!?!?... if you will excuse the idiomatic vernacular.
Britain has lost her courageous soul but we don't have to follow suit. I will NOT do jury duty in a Sharia Court! I will never accept honor killings, FGM, or child brides. 9/11 is our reminder of all the martyrs, along with our brave soldiers and their sacrifices. If Britain wants to go Neanderthal, I will have to hope that Ms. May will NOT don a burkha when she goes on her Middle Eastern "junk"-ettes!!!
This all makes me furious but not hopeless. Will we see the Queen in niqab soon? I think a nice chadoor goes very well with her secluded, royal, lifestyle. A good public servant deserves an appropriate uniform. Now, is someone going to invent a really good fabric that won't get grass stains on her majesty when she prostrates herself in front of the Mufti?????

What can one say? One can only lament the loss that Britain and much of Western Eruope will experience when fundamental Islam takes over their countries. As has been pointed out in many articles now, Sharia law has become more and more frequent in increasing areas of Britain and many Western European countries and ultimately, as a result of their policies, these countries will lose their identity and be forced to live under Sharia law. A worse fate I cannot imagine! I can only hope that North America doesn't follow suit!

The cowardice of Britain in the face of the Islamic invasion makes me doubt that I'll ever realize that dream. No, I don't mean the English people. Like the US, Britain is cursed with a class of "Liberals" willing to give up their culture to avoid conflict with the Muslim world and its' western supporters. There is a political struggle going on there, as there is in the US. In the US, we are winning ours against murderous Islam and the vampire class of Americans who seem so in favor of giving up culture and sovereignty. We may be winning by a slim margin but it is early in the game here and we are determined and well supplied. Sorry, England, I guess I'll spend my money at home and die without seeing the Motherland. You are just too far gone, unless you start to heed those conservative voices soon.

"I give you a toast, ladies and gentlemen.
I give you a toast, ladies and gentlemen.
May this fair dear land we love so well
In dignity and freedom dwell.
Though worlds may change and go awry
While there is still one voice to cry
There'll always be an England
While there's a country lane,
Wherever there's a cottage small
Beside a field of grain.
There'll always be an England
While there's a busy street,
Wherever there's a turning wheel,
A million marching feet.
Red, white and blue; what does it mean to you?
Surely you're proud, shout it aloud,
"Britons, awake!"
The empire too, we can depend on you.
Freedom remains. These are the chains
Nothing can break.
There'll always be an England,
And England shall be free
If England means as much to you
As England means to me.

We are watching a enormous tragedy unfold.

One of London's foremost pastors responded to a direct question about the Islamification of Great Britain by stating it was greatly overstated.

As a London born Indian Sikh I concur with G Meotti's report. The islamisation of U.K. is indeed worrying. But the most perplexing thing is why government and other authorities are encouraging this - something I've long been contemplating. Not only are hijabs a common sight in London and other cities but BBC also seem to be making them a regular feature in reality tv and competition features - unlike with other minority groups such as sikhs and Hindus. It is only a matter of time before we see hijab wearing news readers on the BBC.

I despaired when some schools stopped declaring 'happy Christmas' in fear of upsetting non Christian groups - I LOVED christmas at school and the notion of insensitivity didn't occur in slightest to me or my parents. London today is unrecognisable from even just 10 years ago, the white Brit is becoming a rarity here.

No other ethnic group in U.K. has demanded cultural rights to be reflected in the law (with the exception of sikhs allowed to retain their turbans rather than helmets on motor cycles). My law abiding parents and uncles were eternally grateful for their lives in UK, they worked hard and paid their taxes and retired comfortably. My generation got the benefit of university education and professional careers and a comfortable integration with both Asian and British values.

I reiterate, why are the authorities accepting and encouraging this? And I ask the often asked question - why do the muslims keep wanting to come here if British values are so opposed to theirs'?

Finally, let's get clear - there are many sensible, wise and non radical muslims here and they are as great as any other decent human being. The problem is with the ones who set themselves apart, live defiantly in a world dominated by their own extreme medieval values with no notion of happy co-existence with other cultures or progress in today's world.

The average Brit isn't at ease with this changing face of uk but the government ignores this - at their peril.

That was a very interesting read. It's nice to see what people of other cultures think about all what is going on here in the UK. It's a frightening time unless there is real change in government values. The one thing that struck me with this New World Order is that they say "destroy the old world to create the new" so maybe that makes sense in what our government and Europe are doing.

While there has been a decline in numbers in Anglican Church attendance in Britain, the latest findings have been more positive. Cathedrals have witnessed a rise in congregation numbers, especially amongst young professionals. Also, there was no mention in this piece about the rise in attendance in Pentecostal, Roman Catholic, Baptist and Evangelical Churches.

The last paragraph in this article is a question which asks, "What will be next?" I have the answer for those who can't figure it out themselves in the UK: THE END!

Let's hope common sense prevails and the British people stop that craziness called Islam which is the true devil. For some reason I do believe a great part of the European citizens are awakening and things are going to change. Let's hope so.

Samuel, Britain is strong through their belief in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Europe is slowly awakening to the daily deception of Islam and citizens are sitting up to take notice - the trick is to stand in solidarity for no Sharia Law, Britain first and if you dont agree then go back home. The Brits have to be strong and firm in their conviction - we live in an honest Judeo-Christian society as we have for hundreds of years why should marauding bands of Muslims come here to change our way of living and principals!!

How strange to read of a modern democratic country, still governed by all the precepts of Christianity that made it great, substituting what made it great for a seventh century, and barbarous ideology. Perhaps one can reason that while these Islamic transformations are being wrought in British cities, the overall governance and culture of British democracy remain intact - for the moment. Are the British sleepwalking, while they are being gobbled up, piecemeal, by determined ideologues from barbarous lands? The UK is a great prize for Caliphate bearers, as are all modern, wealthy countries. Mohammed, and his army lived off the avails of all that they conquered - until nothing was left in those lands, necessitating a decamp to yet a new and unfortunate country.

The Islamic armies left nothing but ruin and death in their wake, history has made that very clear. So, with the greatest respect to the British, I would suggest that all their "leaders" are leading them into a Hell on earth. It might not be a bad idea to demand the resignation of these failed leaders, before it is too late. As well, any Christian church being led by a person whose conduct insults and contravenes the teachings of Christ should immediately be removed from control of His church. The strength of the British people, renowned historically, will have to rise and defeat this challenge. Perhaps they might even consider educating and civilizing the newly arrived to the notions of peace, love, freedom of speech, and - oh yes, respect for the individuals (women) without whom they would never have seen life.

One should ask which two belief systems have lead to more church and Bible burnings than any other? "Socialist" movements and Islam.

"What will be next?" asks Giulio Meotti in concluding his article.

Will the British people in a referendum vote for "Islamexit"?
Maybe they might vote for it without a referendum.

How many of the 'closed churches' are like ours? A congregation that is still active, but has moved out of a hopeless Victorian building into something more sensible? So the church building is technically 'closed', but we are making use of TWO other buildings now.

Don't get me wrong - Islam and its spread is a threat to the UK. Stats on their new buildings are obvious. However, stats on closed buildings may not be all they seem.

'A third of Muslims do not feel part of British culture'. Since Islam played no part whatever in the historical creation of the United Kingdom, and indeed it's tenets are often in direct opposition to British values, it cannot be deemed to be part of British culture. Therefore if ANY muslim claims to feel 'part of British culture' they are either ignorant of what that term is supposed to mean, or they are fooling themselves, or they are lying.

Either Great Britain awakes to her spiritual and cultural legacy, or she dies, for there will be no more Great Britain when Muslims outnumber practicing Christians and, in the next stage, take power in their hands. This is the final wakeup call for not only Great Britain, but also France, Germany or the Netherlands (sadly, I believe it's too late for Sweden). Time to end the harmful Muslim immigration and to present and undisputable ultimatum to all the ghettoized Muslims: integrate and adhere to the law of the land, or be the subject of deportation to your home countries. Will the Western democracies have the courage to do that? I do not know, but I doubt the PC-overwhelmed could achieve that.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME, on the so called Church of England. The Arch Bishop strolls around in his costume and pointy hat, the Synod more concerned with Lesbian vicars and the weddings of mustached hairy men than the death of Church Christianity. But make no mistake; THE ELECT OF CHRIST, HIS BODY IS THRIVING, always has done, if Christ be with them, who can be against them.........bad times coming, watch and pray..........

The church leadership is largely in denial. Hijra (Islamic invasion by immigration and birthrate) has continued well into the tipping point. Even the mayor of London is a Muslim. I honestly don't see a future for Great Britain save a real revival of vital Christianity.

I must agree with every word, Stuart. The Church of England outwardly presents a pathetic picture of weakness and compromise, but it has always been the invisible Church of Jesus Christ that matters. Sadly too many Christians are not putting on the armour of God and we will all face dark times and persecution until or unless the Church is revived.

The creeping infestation of an alien religion or way of life into the civilised West is in deed a pity. The thought of sharia law into our Courts is also a disgusting thought. I am glad my children passed through university before the immigrant threat arrived.

The West has to understand that Muslims comprise: "Economic Migrants and Religious Warriors". I am expressing my opinion as a proud American who lived in this country for 46 years and who pledged allegiance to the American flag, and as one who was born and spent 37 years in Egypt before coming to America and as a devout Copt (Egyptian Christian) who chronicled how the Arab Spring went astray in my book "Let There Be Spring".
Muslims in America belong to almost two distinct groups with, necessarily, some overlap.

The first group of economic migrants seek a better life for themselves and their loved ones, are readily assimilating in the American culture and traditions, contribute to the American progress and pay their fair share of taxes. This group includes professionals, venture capitalists, inventors, innovators, professors and entrepreneurs. They do not dress or behave different from any other American citizen. They Obey the American rules and traditions and are respected by the many. They comprise devout religious Muslims who follow the precepts of I
